Homemade Kids Party Games

Some of the most memorable kids party games for any occasion are ones that use various items found around the house.  Keeping it simple allows the focus to be on the fun and not on elaborate purchases.

Here are Kids Party Games top three homemade party game ideas:

The Clothespin Drop
It is easy to adapt this game to just about any theme.  By decorating the clothespins you can transform this into gold for a pirate’s booty or a clever carnival game. The possibilities are endless.

What You Need: Save an empty coffee can. Clean it and cover it with fun party paper.  Gather up a heap of clothespins. Clothespins used to be an everyday necessity. If you don’t happen to have any lying around the house, they are very inexpensive to pick up at your local convenience store, and they’ll make great chip clips when party day has passed.

Homemade Kids Party GamesHow to Play: Have all the players form a line. Place the coffee can on the ground in front of a dining room chair. The chair back should be closest to the coffee can. The first contestant kneels on the seat of the chair and holds the first clothespin to their chin. Then they drop the pin.  The goal is to drop as many pins in the can as possible.  The player with the most pins in the can wins! Try doing two rounds, one with a large coffee can, and a more challenging round with a smaller can.

Lifesaver Relay
This relay is a fun throwback party game that will have everyone cheering.

What You Need:  Coffee stirring straws and several packs of lifesaver candies. Use the gummy variety of lifesavers for younger kids.

How to Play: Form two teams of at least four players each. Set up the teams into a double-ended relay. The length of the relay should depend on the age of the contestants.  Each player receives a coffee straw that they will hold with their mouth.  The starting side of the relay also receives a lifesaver candy on the end of their straw. Yell, “Go!”  The kids then race across the grass balancing their lifesaver on the straw and then pass it to their partner’s straw. The relay of passing the candy goes on until all players in a team have completed one leg of the race without dropping the candy. If a contestant drops the candy, they must return to their start position and begin again. No hands allowed. The balancing act is a riot.

Penny Pincher
Sometimes a little mess makes the best kids party game.

What You Need: Leftover chopsticks from Chinese takeout, several boxes of Jello gelatin, large bowls (up to 4 players per bowl), and around 40 pennies for each bowl.

Preparation: Prepare the gelatin per package instructions. Chill for about 1 ½ hours, then gently add the pennies throughout the bowl. Using an odd number of pennies reduces the chances of a tie. Remember, adding the pennies too early will cause them all to sink.  Continue refrigerating until gelatin fully sets.

How to Play: Call out “Start!” Players use the chopsticks to fish out as many pennies as possible. The player who pinches the most pennies wins. Quote this article on your site
